Geoffrey Rush narrates Encounters – now on television

Wed 31 Jul 2013

Australian Encounters’ is a series of historical sketches which have appeared in every issue of the The Monthly magazine since November 2005. I write the words, Chris Grosz does the illustration. Our collaboration has now moved to the small screeen in the form of three-minuted animated shorts which are now appearing immediately before the 7pm news on ABC television on Tuesday evenings, narrated by the award winning voice box of Geoffrey Rush.

Suitcase Murphy produced the shorts using Chris’s considerable colouring-in skills to animate his original picture. They also shot some short conversations between me and Chris in which we talk about our collaboration and the stories behind some of the encounters. Here’s a link to the ABC web page and you can catch up with past episodes on iView

It’s even got it’s very own page in the book of face How cool is that?

Please enjoy. And if you like the movie, don’t forget there is a book of the first 50 encounters (we are now up to 85 and still going strong) – Black Inc published the book a couple of years back and you might still be able to find a copy in a bookstore near you.
